A FORMAÇÃO DO AMBIENTE CULTURAL DA SOFÍSTICA E DA FILOSOFIA NA ATENAS DO SÉCULO V A.C. THE FORMATION OF THE CULTURAL ENVIRONMENT OF SOPHISTRY AND PHILOSOPHY IN FIFTH-CENTURY BCE ATHENS

Abstract

RESUMO: O presente artigo investiga o contexto histórico e cultural que possibilitou o surgimento da sofística e da filosofia na Atenas do século V a.C. A análise parte das reformas políticas de Sólon e Clístenes, responsáveis por profundas transformações institucionais que culminaram na consolidação da democracia ateniense. Nesse ambiente político emergiu uma nova centralidade do logos como instrumento de deliberação pública, o que produziu uma profunda transformação na cultura helênica. Tal transformação criou as condições para o florescimento de duas correntes intelectuais que ofereceram interpretações distintas da condição humana: a sofística e a filosofia socrática. O artigo busca demonstrar como o desenvolvimento político da pólis ateniense gerou o cenário no qual essas duas perspectivas antropológicas antagônicas puderam emergir e disputar influência sobre a vida cultural e política da cidade. ABSTRACT: This article investigates the historical and cultural context that enabled the emergence of Sophistry and philosophy in fifth-century BCE Athens. The analysis begins with the political reforms of Solon and Cleisthenes, which were responsible for profound institutional transformations that culminated in the consolidation of Athenian democracy. Within this political environment, a new centrality of logos emerged as an instrument of public deliberation, producing a deep transformation in Hellenic culture. This transformation created the conditions for the flourishing of two intellectual currents that offered distinct interpretations of the human condition: Sophistry and Socratic philosophy. The article seeks to demonstrate how the political development of the Athenian polis generated the setting in which these two antagonistic anthropological perspectives could arise and compete for influence over the cultural and political life of the city.
