Abstract

RESUMO: A inclusão de animais em terapias remonta ao século XVII, sendo reconhecida pela International Association of Human-Animal Interaction Organizations (IAHAIO), que classifica as Intervenções Assistidas por Animais (IAA) em três áreas: Atividade Assistida por Animais (AAA), Educação Assistida por Animais (EAA) e Terapia Assistida por Animais (TAA). A AAA visa promover bem-estar e qualidade de vida por meio de atividades recreativas, ajuda a reduzir o estresse, alivia a dor e promove respostas emocionais e fisiológicas positivas. No Brasil, um projeto de lei sobre a regulamentação da AAA está em tramitação, com foco na segurança e responsabilidade no uso de animais em ambientes hospitalares. O uso de cavalos na AAA tem mostrado resultados positivos em crianças com Câncer, Transtorno do Espectro Autista (TEA) e Paralisia Cerebral. Embora o foco no Brasil seja principalmente na reabilitação física, há um crescente interesse por seu potencial em outras áreas da saúde, incluindo o tratamento de crianças com câncer, que enfrentam desafios emocionais e sociais durante o tratamento. O objetivo do projeto é promover atividade assistida com uso de animal da espécie equina para crianças da Casa da Criança do Câncer - PB. Programas como o "Sorriso a Galope" buscam oferecer suporte terapêutico inovador com equinos. Palavras-chave: terapia, atividade assistida, cavalo, criança, câncer.

ABSTRACT: The inclusion of animals in therapies dates back to the 17th century and is recognized by the International Association of Human-Animal Interaction Organizations (IAHAIO), which classifies Animal Assisted Interventions (AAI) into three areas: Animal Assisted Activity (AAA), Animal Assisted Education (EAA), and Animal Assisted Therapy (AAT). AAA aims to promote well-being and quality of life through recreational activities, helps reduce stress, relieves pain, and promotes positive emotional and physiological responses. In Brazil, a bill on the regulation of AAA is under consideration, focusing on safety and responsibility in the use of animals in hospital settings. The use of horses in AAA has shown positive results in children with Cancer, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and Cerebral Palsy. Although the focus in Brazil is mainly on physical rehabilitation, there is growing interest in its potential in other areas of health, including the treatment of children with cancer, who face emotional and social challenges during treatment. The aim of the project is to promote assisted activities using equine animals for children at the Children's Cancer Center - PB.
