ETHNIC TOURISM IN THE “QUILOMBOLA” MIMBÓ COMMUNITY IN AMARANTE-PI

Abstract

RESUMO: Este trabalho se volta a compreender as dinâmicas, as perspectivas e os entraves do turismo étnico na comunidade quilombola do Mimbó, localizada no município de Amarante (PI). Para tanto, parte das análises e reflexões sobre as transformações e reorientações da prática turística contemporânea, com atenção para as abordagens que situam e inserem as comunidades tradicionais, como indígenas e quilombolas, como é o caso do turismo étnico. Metodologicamente, o estudo se relaciona aos pressupostos da pesquisa qualitativa, de abordagem exploratória, operacionalizada a partir da revisão de literatura e da pesquisa de campo. Em sua fase de campo, a pesquisa adotou a observação participante, por meio de vivência das práticas de visitação ali realizadas e o contato com lideranças comunitárias. Em seguida, foram selecionados três representantes para realização de entrevistas em profundidade, duas delas realizadas de modo presencial e uma no formato remoto. Os resultados revelaram as especificidades da condução da prática turística na comunidade Mimbó, em que as dinâmicas do turismo local são permeadas de desafios, a exemplo da falta de estrutura turística e da necessidade de um planejamento mais estruturado dessa atividade. Ao mesmo tempo, a pesquisa identificou oportunidades que podem conduzir a um cenário de maior engajamento, fortalecimento identitário e desenvolvimento social e econômico da referida localidade através do turismo, além de promover a preservação da cultura daquela comunidade. ABSTRACT: This paper aims to understand the dynamics, perspectives and obstacles of ethnic tourism in the community of Mimbó, located in the municipality of Amarante (PI). To this end, it starts from analyzes and reflections on the transformations and reorientations of contemporary tourist practice, with attention to approaches that situate and include traditional communities, such as indigenous people and quilombolas, as is the case of ethnic tourism. Methodologically, the study is related to the assumptions of qualitative research, with an exploratory approach, operationalized from literature review and field research. In its field phase, the research adopted participant observation, through experience of the visiting practices carried out there and contact with community leaders. Three representatives were then selected to carry out in-depth interviews, two of which were carried out in person and one remotely. The results revealed the specificities of conducting tourism in the Mimbó community, in which the dynamics of local tourism are permeated with challenges, such as the lack of tourist structure and the need for more structured planning of this activity. At the same time, the research identified opportunities that could lead to a scenario of greater engagement, identity strengthening and social and economic development of that location through tourism, in addition to promoting the preservation of that community's culture.
